Q-HMS Repeater Light System
From April 2021 the new CAP437 safety update will come into effect for floating helidecks. The new revision of the CAP437 includes a lighting system which is controlled by the Helideck Monitoring system (HMS). This system includes 4 lights, that will be placed at each corner of the helideck for omnidirectional visibility, the lights are connected to a control panel.
The Q-HMS Repeater Light System (Q40RI03L) provides to the pilot a live status of the motion and wind conditions of the helideck which are monitored by the HMS system, the status of the helideck’s condition is measured by the HMS system and communicated into different light colours through the Q-HMS Repeater Light System. The Q-HMS Repeater Light System can be integrated into all HMS manufacturers.Operation of HMS Repeater Light system
The Q-HMS Repeater Light System (Q40RI03L) is indicating the helideck operational status which is required to provide information directly to the helideck crew and helicopter flight crew. The operational status displayed by the repeater lights shall be identical to that displayed on the Helideck Monitoring System (HMS) display and shall comprise blue, amber and red lights. The Q-HMS Repeater Light System can be integrated into all Rev. 9 systems.
The System mechanical characteristics
The Q-HMS Repeater Light System comprises out of 4 individual stainless steel light units. Each unit emits 3 individual colours, either steady burning or flashing(red, amber, blue). Each colour and mode represents a different status of helideck. All Q-HMS Repeater Light units have a built-in junction box for easy wire connection. The light units will be connected to the Q-HMS On-deck Junction Box, which is connected back to the Q-HMS main Control Panel. The Q-HMS repeater light system main control panel is connected to the existing HMS system.
1. Location
2. Operation
Steady Blue status
safe to land based on pitch/roll/'processed' SHR/inclination and MSI/WSI limits.
Steady Amber status
MSI/WSI limit only exceedance (consider using modified operating procedures).
Steady Red status
do not land (pitch, roll, 'processed' SHR or inclination out of limits).
Flashing 30FPM
Blue status relative wind direction within limits.
Flashing 60FPM
Amber status impending relative wind limit exceedance (investigate cause and identify appropriate mitigating action required).
Flashing 60FPM
Red status relative wind limit exceeded (take appropriate mitigating action).
3. Performance
Prior to landing the lights are operated in steady burning mode only and will be detectable at a range of at least 500 m and conspicuous at a range of at least 400 m in a meteorological visibility of 1400 m in daylight. After landing the lights are operated in flashing mode only and will be viewed at close range (approx. 5 m). The maximum and minimum intensities for day time operation are therefore halved for the flashing mode to avoid dazzling the pilot.
4. Day/Night Operation:
Operations to moving helidecks can take place in daylight and at night. Light intensities for both day time and night operations are therefore specified. During night time operations, the light unit intensity are controlled by a photocell as operation of the light at the daylight setting at night is very likely to dazzle the pilot. The photocell needs to be shielded from direct sunlight in order to correctly measure ambient light, particularly during sunset and sunrise when the sun is low in the sky.
Our specifications
The Q-HMS Repeater Light System comes with:
Single light solution
Red, Amber and Blue lights all combined into 1 single housing, easy to install, connect and maintain.
Integrated photocell in each light
The integrated redundant photocells will make sure that the intensity will automatically switch from day to night mode.
Excellent resistance against harsh offshore conditions
Due to the usage of high grade stainless steel , the light system will be able to withstand the harsh offshore conditions of an offshore helideck
Powder coated enclosure
A high end cataphoric pre-treatment and a powder coat of minimum 200 microns thick is applied
Hermetically sealed enclosure to ensure a maintenance free system
All light units are hermetically sealed to ensure high ingress protection and a long life time.
Integrated sensors for fault detections
All lights come with build-in fault sensors that communicates the status back to the main controller and the HMS system itself.
Height below 150mm
The system is designed with a maximum height of 150 mm to meet the latest regulations.
Works on all HMS systems
Due to use of various communication methods, the HMS repeater light system can be integrated with all HMS systems
